I am the grief in your belly

by Amy Wright Glenn

I am the grief in your belly.
This is what I want you to know:

Know that I love you. I love you. I love you.

I love all you have loved and lost and are losing.
That is why I hurt.

I hurt.
I hurt.

I hurt because it is hard to release what I don’t want to let go.

I am the grief in your belly.
This is what I want you to know:

I’m sad you are afraid of your power. I’m sad you push me down.
I’m sad you hated me for so long.

I want to protect you.
To fight for you.
To make you see that you are angry.

You can be angry. You should be.

And I am the grief in your belly.
This is what I want you to know

To know
To know

This is what I want you to know:

Stop fighting me

I am not your enemy

I am the shadow
You need to welcome home.
