Join our July Institute Book Club focusing on
Milk, Blood, Heat
by Dantiel W. Moiniz
Thursdays July 1, 8, 15, & 22
Facilitated by Naima Beckles and Joanne Zerdy PhD.
Institute members and Institute Teachers ~ Naima Beckles and Joanne Zerdy, PhD ~ warmly invite all who are willing/able to join them in a 4-week summer Institute Book Club experience.
Naima and Joanne will facilitate discussion, make room for questions, share insights, open breakout rooms for small group responses and personal reflections on Milk, Blood, and Heat by Dantiel W. Moiniz. Naima describes this book as “a rich collection of short stories with themes of loss, ritual, friendships, mothering (and more) that are each so central to the Institute. I think it’ll be great!”
*The Institute Book Club is open to all.
Participants gather via Zoom with two Institute Book Club Facilitators for weekly 90-minute discussions over the course of a month. There’s no powerpoint, no official teaching ~ rather facilitators are trained to hold brave/safe space for honest discussions, reflections, and allow for the wisdom drawn from responses to the book to emerge as the group’s collective teacher. Institute Book Club gatherings occur in real time and are not recorded.

Soon after the birth of her first child, she chose the work of supporting expectant parents and earned certifications from Lamaze and DONA. While training with Amy Glenn Wright in a pregnancy loss course, the desire to hold space for life’s big losses, including death, was sparked. As a teacher, doula, and mother; Naima lovingly stands alongside individuals navigating difficulties and triumphs. Naima offers private consultations with individuals who are experiencing any kind of loss during this confusing and difficult time. Learn more.
