Holding Space for Pregnancy Loss
5~hour training with Amy Wright Glenn & Ilonka Michelle O’Neil, RN
The Orchid Nest
Delray Beach, Florida
Saturday, February 22nd 2020
“Silent, unprocessed grief from previous pregnancy loss can deeply impact the trajectory of a mother’s future pregnancy and childbirth experiences,” writes Amy Wright Glenn in Miscarriage Matters for the PhillyVoice. It’s true. Yet, how can care providers best hold space for this grief? What practical skill sets exist to guide those called to serve bereaved parents and families devastated by pregnancy loss?
This 5-hour workshop is designed to benefit midwives, obstetricians, doulas, nurses, prenatal yoga teachers, hospital chaplains, ministers, therapists, and pastoral care providers who support women and their families through pregnancy loss. One need not be employed in any of these fields to participate – the training is open to all.
Amy and Ilonka will guide participants through a heartfelt analysis of three key components central to holding space for grieving mothers and their families.
These components are:
- An introduction to the companioning model of care outlined by Alan Wolfelt, Founder and Director of the Center for Loss & Life Transition.
- An exploration of best care practices with regard to the various support networks surrounding bereaved mothers.
- A cross-cultural understanding of the healing power of ritual found in both religious and secular settings.
“This book is like a superhero, showing us how to run bravely toward the darkness and come out the other side as a human being. Amy deserves not just praise for writing in gorgeous, clear prose, but deep thanks for creating a gentle guide we all need for that one thing no one escapes: death.”—Tina Cassidy, Birth
All participants are asked to prepare for this 5-hour training by reading Holding Space: On Loving, Dying, and Letting Go by Amy Wright Glenn.
PDF certificates of completion are available to all who successfully complete this training. Nursing CE hours and CEUs for doulas are also available.
